Having a lot of new traffic to your site is great, but if those visitors do not become repeat buyers, it does you little good.
One of the most effective tactics for creating repeat visitors and sales is to offer your first-time visitors something of value for free. I don't recommend giving your product or service away at no charge, but something that compliments or enhances them is a great strategy.
The key here is to require your visitors to provide you with their e-mail address in exchange for the free item. By capturing their e-mail address, you will now be able to communicate with them in an ongoing fashion, keeping them up-to-date on new products you are launching or sales you are having.
Here's how I use this tactic in my own business. I offer my visitors a free, 254 page e-book on Internet marketing strategies for small business owners (available on my website at http:www.smallbusinessmavericks.com).
By providing their e-mail address, they receive a note from me with a link to download their e-book. I can then stay in touch with these people via my weekly newsletter, providing them tips they can use to grow their business on the web and reminding them to come back and visit my site. This dramatically increases the chances that these former one-time visitors will become my repeat customers.
